Installation and Commissioning to BS5839-1:2013.

This is an intensive one-day course 9.00-5.00, which should suit maintenance engineers and maintenance managers.

The format includes theory and practical work throughout the day, with a practical assessment and written paper at the end of the course.

Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a pass Certificate

Before attending this course, it is essential to pass Module 1

Session 1

Installation for commercial and industrial premises.
Good working practice and cable fixing recommendations
Cable terminations, screens and earth connections
Siting manual call points
Monitoring of circuits for life safety
Testing non-addressable zone circuits

Session 2

Monitoring and testing of alarm device circuits
Monitoring, testing and fault finding for addressable loops circuits
Adding to and extending systems
Siting detectors and suitable cables for detector remote indicators and alarm circuits

Installing optical beam detectors, linear heat detector cables and duct detectors
Aspirating detectors, pipe work and hole drilling
Alarm devices
Cables and connections to transmitters to Alarm receiving Centres
Cable resistance and continuity measurements
Mains supply circuits, zone plans, documentation and certification

Session 3

Commissioning for commercial and industrial premises.
Quick revision of categories [L1, L2, etc], travel distance for manual call points
Coverage for:

Point detectors for flat ceilings and pitched roofs
Optical beam detectors
Cellular structures and closely spaced beams

Obvious causes of false alarms and soak testing
Cause and effect with filtering
Alarm devices and dBA checks
Checking sound pressure and visual alarms
Checking fault monitoring of all circuits
Testing all detectors and manual call points
Checking duct detectors and aspirating detectors
Checking mains and standby power supplies for all items

Session 4

Documentation and certification for design, installation and mains supply
Cause and effect test records
Aspirating, and radio system checks
Dealing with unresolved issues
Commissioning certificate
Backup of site-specific software
Handover to user and acceptance
